How to have a conversation in California and be mistaken for a local

Did you end up in California and don’t really know how to talk to people? Especially if you are in LA, this little guide might work pretty well for you.

Just follow these simple steps.

1. Show appreciation

Whatever the other person is talking about is either something “Awesome”, “Amazing” or something that “You love” (you can add “so much” every now and then), even if you don’t really care.

2. Surround yourself with the right people

Whoever is a “cool” fit for the topic being discussed is “your best friend”. You don’t necessarily need to know the person. They can also be somebody that you happened to be standing by for a few minutes, years before.

If you do know somebody famous, just tell everybody. If you don’t really know somebody famous… it doesn’t matter, just tell everybody that you do.

3. Be grateful

Thank the other person for any apparent little act of kindess they seem to be doing towards you.

4. Make plans and flake

Make exciting plans on the spot even though you’re pretty sure that you’re never going to do such a thing. Be reassured! Should the other person ask in the future, being busy and not being able to make it is “cool”.

5. Accents are cool

If they still don’t believe you’re a local, probably because you have thick italian accent, just say you’re faking it because you “love” it.
